Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has been described as a failure.
According to the Convener of the Nigerians in Diaspora who also doubles as the Leader of the Rescue Movement for New Nigeria and a former presidential aspirant under the Labour Party, Mr. Faduri Oluwadare Joseph aka Fadojoe, in a statement today said that the NIDCOM Chairman/CEO has failed Nigerians in diaspora alleging that Nigerians does not know they even have an ambassador in diaspora.
Faduri claims that despite Dabiri’s decade-long tenure, her efforts have yielded little to no tangible results for Nigerians living abroad.
Faduri highlighted the plight of Nigerians in various countries, citing instances of abuse, hostage situations, and other issues, with many being unaware of Dabiri’s role or where to seek help.
He emphasized that unlike their American counterparts, Nigerians often find themselves helpless when facing problems abroad, with the Nigerian government seemingly unresponsive to their needs.
“Nigerians in diaspora find themselves helpless when they need their government intervention in any issue,” Faduri lamented.
“When Americans say ‘God bless America,’ they don’t just say it for saying sake: they feel the impact of their country anywhere they are in the world.”
Faduri also criticized Dabiri for publicly maligning Nigerians in the diaspora, despite being their representative.
He argued that Dabiri’s comments were not only hurtful but also inaccurate, given the significant financial contributions Nigerians abroad make to their families back home.
“Nigerians are hardworking people all across the world, but for Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa to tag them suffering Nigerians, is a total shame,” Faduri stated.
“She owes Nigerians in diaspora an apology for saying so.”
The former presidential aspirant has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to scrutinize Dabiri’s activities as NIDCOM Chairman/CEO, citing instances where investors reached out to her for assistance but received no response.
Faduri also announced plans to establish the Nigerians In Diaspora Movement, aimed at uniting and supporting Nigerians abroad.
