2024/2025 Academic Session: OAU Releases Resumption Date for New Students

The Senate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has approved the academic calendar for the 2024/2025 session, with October 11 set as the official resumption date for fresh students.

The decision was reached at its sitting on Thursday, as the institution prepares for another year of academic excellence and innovation.

According to a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, fresh students are expected to arrive on campus in phases beginning Saturday, October 11, 2025.

“Those in the Faculties of Administration, Arts, Environmental Design and Management (EDM), Education, Law, and Social Sciences will resume first, while students in Agriculture, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Computing Science, Engineering, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Technology will return the following day, Sunday, October 12, 2025.

“The release further noted that online course registration for fresh students will open on Monday, October 13, 2025. The university has also scheduled an Orientation Programme from October 13 to 17, while ICT Training for new intakes will hold from October 20 to 24. These exercises are designed to properly integrate fresh students into the OAU system and provide them with the skills needed to navigate academic and digital platforms.

“For returning undergraduate students, resumption has been fixed for Sunday, October 26, 2025. Academic activities for both fresh and returning students will kick off immediately after resumption, with lectures scheduled to begin on Monday, October 27, 2025.

“The calendar further shows that normal course registration will close on October 31, 2025, while late registration with penalties will run from November 24 to 28, 2025. The Matriculation Ceremony for new students has been scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, 2025, marking their official entry into the university community.

“The Harmattan Semester, which is the first half of the session, is expected to run until March 2026. It will consist of 13 weeks of lectures, a revision week, and designated periods for examinations and semester breaks. This arrangement, the university said, is structured to ensure smooth academic flow and timely completion of the session.

“The Rain Semester, which is the second half of the academic year, is scheduled to commence on Monday, March 30, 2026. This semester will continue the structured timetable aimed at balancing academic rigour with adequate rest periods for students.

“While unveiling the calendar, the University Senate restated its commitment to providing a stable, flexible, and innovation-driven academic environment. OAU expressed optimism that the new academic year will further promote intellectual growth, innovation, and holistic development for both fresh and returning students”.
