Agbeku Community Cries Out After Bandit Attack, Seeks KWSG’s Intervention

The Agbeku community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State has accused the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq–led state government of abandoning them to the terror of bandits following a series of violent attacks that have left the once–vibrant town completely deserted.

In a Save-Our-Soul (SOS) press statement issued yesterday, and signed by the National General Secretary of the Agbeku Community Development Association (ACDA), Dr. Olajide Loqman Lawal, copy of which was made available to this medium , the community lamented what it described as the “glaring indifference” of the state government to their worsening security situation .

According to the community, Agbeku has been subjected to five major bandit attacks over the last two years, the latest occurring on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

During the most recent attack, a community Chief, Chief Jimoh Atanda was killed, a woman was shot and left critically injured, two residents were kidnapped, and several shops were looted by the assailants ‹as documented on page 1 of the release› .

Following the incident, panic spread across the community, forcing residents to flee en masse and leaving Agbeku completely deserted.

The ACDA noted that despite officially notifying the Executive Governor, the Kwara State Police Command, the Governor’s security aides, and the Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government about the looming danger, no meaningful response was received from the state authorities ‹page 1› .

“The most worrisome thing is that the Kwara State Government has largely abandoned us to our plight,” the statement reads. “Our empty community remains vulnerable to hoodlums and vandals who may want to exploit this situation to wreak more havoc on our abandoned houses”

While appreciating the Ifelodun Local Government Chairman for personally visiting the community, attending the Fidau prayers of the slain Chief, and offering financial support to victims, the ACDA said the state government has done nothing to reassure the people of safety or facilitate their return.

The association called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to urgently deploy security agencies to Agbeku, restore the police post that was shut down years ago, and take steps to enable the displaced residents to safely return home. It warned that unless urgent measures are implemented, the community risks being “wiped off from the map of Kwara State” ‹page 2› .

As at the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Government has not issued any official response to the distress call from Agbeku.
