NYSC Member Killed in Abuja Robbery Crossfire

A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abdulsamad Jamiu, has lost his life after being caught in a crossfire during an armed robbery incident in the Dei-Dei area of Abuja.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of April 25, 2026, at Shagari Estate, Dei-Dei, when troops on routine patrol responded to a distress call, according to a statement released by the Nigerian Army.
The Headquarters Guards Brigade, while confirming the incident, expressed deep regret over the death of the corps member.

According to the Army, troops of the Guards Brigade Quick Response Group were mobilised after reports of an armed robbery attack in the area. Upon arrival, they came under gunfire from fleeing armed robbers, leading to a brief but intense exchange.

During the confrontation, Jamiu was caught in the crossfire and sustained fatal injuries.
Despite efforts by the troops to secure the area and preserve lives, he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Brigade described the situation as highly volatile, noting that soldiers were working under tense conditions to repel the attackers and safeguard residents.

The Army extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the NYSC, and all affected by the tragedy.

It also disclosed that a full investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, assuring the public of transparency and accountability.

The remains of the deceased have since been handed over to relevant authorities and deposited at Kubwa General Hospital.

The Guards Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians and stated that it would continue to review its operational strategies to enhance public safety.
