FBI Appeals for Calm as Political Tensions Rise in Osun

A nongovernmental organization, Future Builders Initiative (FBI) in partnership with PEACAD Network has called on political actors and community stakeholders in Ilobu, Erin-Osun, and Ifon-Orolu to embrace peace, restraint, and dialogue amid rising political tensions following the death of a 14-year-old boy in Ilobu.

The group under #PreachForPeace Project expressed concern over recent political comments and incidents capable of threatening the fragile peace in the affected communities.

In a statement issued on Monday, and made available to THE SOURCE tiday the organisation said it was saddened by the tragic incident in Ilobu, where the teenager was reportedly accidentally killed during a political violence-related incident.

The group described the incident as a painful reminder of the need for all stakeholders to prioritise the safety and well-being of residents while avoiding actions capable of escalating tensions.

The group noted that it had spent the past five months building trust, promoting dialogue, and creating platforms for peaceful coexistence among Ilobu, Erin-Osun, and Ifon-Orolu.

It recalled that stakeholders from the three communities recently gathered at a Multi-Stakeholder Peace Summit on June 18, 2026, where they signed a Peace Accord committing to dialogue, accountability, and youth-led sustainable peace.

The organisation urged political leaders and stakeholders to respect the spirit of the accord by refraining from inflammatory statements and actions that could undermine the peace-building efforts.

It specifically appealed to political actors to avoid comments capable of provoking communal tension, respect the sanctity of lives, engage in constructive dialogue, and allow the legal process to determine the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.

The project also called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident and ensure that justice is served.

While extending condolences to the family of the deceased, #PreachForPeace urged residents of the communities to remain calm, avoid retaliation, and allow authorities to handle the matter appropriately.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting reconciliation efforts, stressing that the future of Ilobu, Erin-Osun, and Ifon-Orolu depends on choosing peace, unity, and dialogue over violence and division.
