The Anglican Communion, Diocese of Abakaliki, has condemned the incessant killings and violence experienced in the country ahead of the 2023 general polls.

The diocese on Tuesday, made the condemnation in a communique issued by bishop of the diocese, Monday Nkwoagu, and the Clerical Synod Secretary, Stev Okomgbeso.

Speaking at the end of the 2022 Synod in Abakaliki, Mr Nkwoagu called on politicians in the country to end the killings and restore the sanctity of life by advising their followers.

He observed that people now celebrate abnormality and choose to go the way of insanity to attract attention and followers.

The bishop decried the worsening insecurity of lives and property in the country that had subjected citizens to dehumanising situations.

He also expressed worry over the state of the country’s economy, judiciary, and educational sector, among other critical sectors.

“The situation worries the church and casts serious doubts in quick interventions by authorities and adequate protection of lives and property of people in the country.

“Avoid violence but let the election be free and fair campaign activities, because a true leader comes from God,” Mr Nkwoagu said.

He urged political parties and their members to emulate former President Goodluck Jonathan as a true democrat and patriot that led to free and peaceful elections in 2015.

He commended INEC for seamless elections conducted in some states so far, where its electronic transmission and other devices were deployed.

He warned the electorate not to succumb to inducement to sell their votes, further advising them to vote wisely in order to elect credible and patriotic leaders.
