A remarkable show of unity and compassion unfolded on Saturday as the non-governmental organisations, Children of Africa Leadership and Values Development Initiative (CALDEV) organised a charity walk from Alekuwodo to Old Garage to raise awareness and solicit both financial and material support for orphans and special needs children.
The event, themed *”Every Child Counts,”* aimed to highlight the often-overlooked needs of vulnerable children and garner donations to enhance their welfare.
Participants from various sectors of society volunteered to walk, raising funds and support for orphanages and special schools.
Over 300 children from 20 orphanages and 5 special needs schools across Osun State benefited from the funds and relief materials donated, with Representative Bamidele Salam personally overseeing the distribution.
The walk not only served as a platform for fundraising but also emphasized the importance of prioritising the care of these children, many of whom face daily challenges due to their circumstances.
The event was a resounding success, with numerous individuals and organisations coming forward to support the cause.
Several corporate sponsors made generous contributions, providing both financial donations and essential materials, including food, clothing, shoes, educational supplies, and others.
In a heartfelt address, the founder of CALDEV, Representative Bamidele Salam, stressed the significance of ensuring that every child, regardless of their background or abilities, is given the opportunity to thrive.
“Today is a reminder that no child should be left behind. Every child counts, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that these children receive the care, love, and opportunities they deserve,” Salam said.
The CALDEV founder also emphasized the critical need for community involvement in addressing the challenges faced by orphans and children with special needs.
“This walk is not just about raising funds; it is about creating awareness and igniting action. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these children, providing them with the hope and support they need to overcome their difficulties,” he added.
Representative Bamidele Salam also extended his appreciation to the bike riders, drivers, traders, artisans, and individuals who generously donated funds and materials both before and during the walk.
“Their support was invaluable in ensuring the success of the event,” he said.
The participating children, along with their caregivers, were visibly moved by the outpouring of support.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the impact of collective action in making lasting change.
Alawo of Awo, Oba Abdulrasaq Taiwo Adegboye, who was present at the occasion, also expressed his appreciation to Representative Bamidele Salam for his continuous dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable children in the community.
The Coordinator of Orphanages in Osun, Alhaja Laoye S.O., also took the opportunity to express her gratitude to Rep. Bamidele Salam for his relentless efforts in supporting orphanages and special needs schools across the state.
Caregivers at the event also voiced their appreciation to the CALDEV founder, acknowledging his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the children in their care.
As the walk concluded, participants gathered at the Oasis Event Centre for a celebration, where the children were treated to a fun-filled afternoon of games, performances, and refreshments.
CALDEV plans to continue its advocacy and support programmes for orphans and special needs children throughout the year, ensuring that the theme *”Every Child Counts”* resonates far beyond this event.
With the success of this charity walk, the organisation has proven that when communities unite for a common cause, they can help transform the lives of those in need.
