Human Rights Organization, The Committee For The Defence Of Human Rights (CDHR) has called for a thorough auditing of the the ecological fund over flooding incidents that occurred in many Communities in different parts of the country.
In a Communiqué signed by the CDHR National President, Dr. Osagie Obayuwana, and made available through the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Idris Afees Olayinka, at the end of the 2022 Annual General Conference of the organization held on 5th November, at Ikeja, Lagos State.

Obayuwana demanded for probe of those who may have partaken in the looting of the funds since the establishment of the programme.
He attributed the incident of the recent flood in Nigeria that affected numerous Communities in different parts of the country to the negligence on the Federal Government of Nigeria.
According to him, “CDHR demands proactive steps in the combat of flooding and the realization of the goals for which the Ecological Fund was set up.
“The calamity that befall numerous Communities in different parts of the country on account of the recent flooding, is directly traceable to negligence on the part of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“CDHR therefore demands that immediate equitable compensation be paid to all the families who lost their loved ones, their homes and means of livelihoods.
“It is the hope of the CDHR that the Federal Government of Nigeria would heed this call and save itself of the rigours of litigation.
He however, urged the masses and the victims of misrule in Nigeria to continue to fight for their rights with greater determination.
“All CDHR members nationwide were called upon by the AGC to immerse ourselves in the struggle to defeat misrule, and end violation of rights in Nigeria.
“The message of the CDHR consistently to the victims of rights abuse, is to fight for their rights at all times, and that in the task of self-liberation, victims can count on and be reassured at all times of the dignified and dedicated support of the CDHR.
“We condemns in very strong terms, the continuing non-payment of the
minimum wage in various States of the Federation contrary to the Minimum Wage Actbespecially in the face of the worst inflationary rates ever witnessed in Nigeria.
“We also condemned the penchance and refusal by various governments at all levels in Nigeria to pay lump-sum gratuities to pensioners, in some instances for as long as 20 years after retirement. This treatment of senior citizens who are 80 years and above, is not only callous, but is crime against humanity.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria under the Buhari Presidency should demonstrate its appreciation of the linkages between the pervasiveness of poverty and its induced frustration and discontent, on the widespread nature of insecurity across the land.
“We therefore calls on the Federal and State Governments to adopt Social and Economic measures that would bring reliefs to the teeming populace as a panacea to insecurity, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery” he said .
