UNIFEMGA Calls for National Unity, Positive Mindset

Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates’ Association has urged Nigerians to adopt a positive mindset, embrace unity and contribute actively to national development as the association concluded its 2026 Annual National Reunion at Obafemi Awolowo University.

The three-day reunion, held between May 8 and May 10 at the university campus in Ile-Ife, Osun State, with the theme, “The Potential within Nigeria: Positive Mindset and Communication for Success.”

In a statement issued at the end of the conference and signed by the National President, Muhammed Buhari, and National Secretary, Sefiu Ikudaisi, the association observed that Nigeria possesses abundant human and material resources capable of transforming the country into a global force if citizens embrace positive attitudes, patriotism and collective responsibility.

The association, however, expressed concern that negative narratives and disunity had continued to undermine the country’s development potential.

UNIFEMGA further noted that Islam encourages development and supports the adoption of modern ideas and technologies that improve human life within the principles of the religion.

The association stressed that Nigeria’s progress depends largely on the mindset of its citizens and their willingness to contribute meaningfully to national growth.

It also called on Nigerian youths to remain hopeful and focus on solutions capable of advancing the nation, while urging stakeholders to promote peace, discipline, productivity and unity.

The association advocated stronger collaboration between universities and the private sector to ensure sustainable research and innovation.

It further identified brain drain, obsolete equipment, disruption of academic calendars and outdated curricula as major challenges confronting tertiary institutions in the country, urging government to urgently address them.

The association stressed the need to create more employment opportunities for millions of unemployed Nigerians who are vulnerable to exploitation by violent and unpatriotic elements.

UNIFEMGA also called on government to create an enabling business environment through improved electricity supply, infrastructure and human capital development, while advocating increased employment opportunities for unemployed youths to prevent their exploitation for violent activities.

The association therefore noted that a positive mindset remains the foundation for building a prosperous nation and urged Nigerians to imbibe values that would foster growth and national development.

Also, as part of its welfare initiatives, the association awarded 140 scholarships worth N14.6 million to students of the university. UNIFEMGA disclosed that since the inception of the scholarship scheme in the 2009/2010 academic session, a total of ₦103.4 million has been disbursed to 1,148 students.
