The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has condemned the recent wave of political violence in the state, urging Governor Ademola Adeleke to rein in his supporters and ensure that democratic activities are conducted peacefully.

Oyebamiji, in a personal statement issued on Tuesday, expressed concern over what he described as a growing atmosphere of intimidation, violence and political intolerance across the state, warning that democracy must not be reduced to a contest of force and fear.

“Democracy is a contest of ideas, vision and service to the people. There is no political office, including the office of Governor, that is worth the blood of any human being,” he said.

“No ambition is greater than the value of human life, and no electoral victory can justify violence against fellow citizens.”

The APC candidate said he was deeply troubled by reports of attacks on members and supporters of his party in several parts of the state, including Owode-Ede, Ifeland and Osogbo.

According to him, supporters of the APC were attacked in Owode-Ede while campaign buses were allegedly vandalised.

He also claimed that party members participating in a peaceful Walk-to-Live rally in Ifeland came under attack from hoodlums allegedly linked to the ruling party, leaving several participants injured.

Oyebamiji further alleged that APC supporters in Osogbo were subjected to physical assaults, while reports indicated that some individuals were shot at during the incidents.

“The full extent of the injuries and any possible fatalities has not been independently verified, but every report of violence against innocent citizens is deeply troubling and unacceptable,” he stated.

While condemning all forms of political violence regardless of the perpetrators, Oyebamiji said those seeking political power through intimidation and lawlessness have no place in a democratic society.

“I condemn all forms of political violence, regardless of who the perpetrators may be. Those who seek power through intimidation, fear and lawlessness have no place in a democratic society,” he said.

The APC governorship hopeful maintained that the primary responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property, lamenting that many residents of the state now feel increasingly vulnerable and insecure.

“The growing atmosphere of intimidation, violence and political intolerance should concern every lover of democracy and every stakeholder in the future of Osun State,” he added.

Looking ahead to the 2026 governorship election, Oyebamiji promised that security and the protection of citizens would rank among the top priorities of his administration if elected governor.

“By the grace of Almighty God and through the overwhelming support of the good people of Osun State, when I am entrusted with the responsibility of leading our state, the safety and security of our people will be a top priority of my administration,” he said.

“We shall build a state where citizens can freely exercise their democratic rights without fear of harassment, intimidation or violence.”

He also pledged a zero-tolerance approach to criminality, promising to uphold the rule of law and ensure equal treatment of all citizens.

“My administration will maintain zero tolerance for criminality. We shall not harbour criminals, encourage lawlessness, or look the other way while criminal elements operate under political protection,” he stated.

Oyebamiji urged APC supporters and residents of the state to remain peaceful and law-abiding despite alleged provocations, stressing that political differences should never result in violence.

“Let us not respond to provocation with violence. Let us continue to place our faith in God and in the power of the ballot,” he said.

The APC candidate expressed optimism that a new administration would emerge after the November 27 governorship election, promising what he described as a truly progressive government focused on the welfare, security, prosperity and peace of Osun people.
