Osun APC Accuses Accord Party of Violence, Urges Police to Screen Branded Vehicles

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the police and other security agencies to intensify surveillance on political activities in the state, including conducting stop-and-search operations on Accord Party-branded vehicles.

The party made the call while reacting to allegations by the Accord Party that the APC was allegedly rebranding its campaign vehicles in Accord Party colours to cause violence and blame the attacks on the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

In a statement signed by the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party described the allegation as false, frivolous and an attempt to create unnecessary tension ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The APC said its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), and his campaign council were committed to peaceful political engagement, adding that violence was not part of the party’s strategy.

The party accused the Accord Party leadership of engaging in what it described as a pattern of making allegations against opposition parties, urging security agencies to investigate the claims and maintain neutrality.

The APC also called on the police to place Accord Party leaders and their activities under close watch, alleging that some of its members and supporters had suffered attacks in parts of the state, including Ile-Ife, Owode-Ede and Osogbo.

It said the recent allegation by the Accord Party should be treated as diversionary and questioned why the party did not immediately report the alleged plot to security agencies if it had evidence.

“Based on this fabricated allegation of the Osun State chapter of the Accord Party against the campaign council of our governorship candidate, we suggest to the police and other security services that all branded Accord Party vehicles in the state should be subjected to stop-and-search operations in order to unveil the real criminals,” the statement added.

In a separate statement issued on Sunday, the APC appealed to the Osun State Police Command to declare Owode-Ede in Ede North Local Government Area a political flashpoint, alleging persistent attacks on its members and supporters in the area.

The party claimed that Owode-Ede had become a hotspot for political clashes and urged security agencies to take preventive measures to protect residents and property.

According to the APC, the community’s strategic location as a route linking Ife Federal Constituency, Aiyedaade, Irewole and Isokan areas to Osogbo made it necessary for authorities to ensure peace and security there.

The party alleged that some APC supporters had been harassed, while vehicles and party materials were allegedly damaged by political thugs in the area.

It further called on security agencies to prevent the gathering of suspected political thugs around the Owode-Ede market junction, while respecting the constitutional rights of citizens.

The APC also alleged that previous incidents, including attacks during the 2022 governorship election period, showed the need for increased security attention in the community.

The party urged the police and other security agencies to act swiftly to prevent any breakdown of law and order as political activities intensify ahead of the 2026 election.
