Osun 2026: Over 150 Accord Members Defect to APC in Osun, Back Oyebamiji
No fewer than 150 members of the ruling Accord Party in Ilie, Ward 11, Olorunda Local Government Area, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State and pledged their support for the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji.

The defectors were received by leaders of the party at the Ward 11 APC Secretariat in Ilie, Olorunda Local Government Area, on Monday.
Speaking at the event the chairperson of Olorunda Area Council and APC leader in Ilie, Hon. Felicia Omolaoye, said the defection of members of the opposition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a clear indication that the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji enjoys widespread acceptance and is destined for victory in the August 15th, 2026 governorship election.
She said the reception accorded the former Accord Party youth leader and other stakeholders who had pitched tent with the opposition APC reflected their confidence in Oyebamiji’s leadership qualities.
“The defection of members of the opposition to the APC is a clear indication that Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, AMBO is God’s project and we believe he will emerge victorious in the August 15th governorship election.
“Today, we received the Accord Party youth leader and other stakeholders because they have seen the quality of leadership in our gubernatorial candidate – Oyebamiji and believe he is the right person to lead Osun State,” she said.
Expressing delight over the gale of defection into the party across the state, the Executive Chairman, Olorunda Local Government Area, Hon. Kunle Kudayisi expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will record a landslide victory in the August 15 governorship election in Osun State following the defection of members from the Accord Party.
Kudayisi said the growing wave of defections was a clear indication of the APC’s increasing popularity across the state.
He said the development further strengthened the party’s chances of winning the governorship election. He urged party supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding, stressing that the APC was committed to issue-based campaigns.
According to him, “I feel great today to receive over 150 members of the Accord Party. You can see it yourself without exaggeration. The way they have joined the APC here is the same thing happening in all our wards in Olorunda and across the state. This will make our victory in the August 15 election much easier, by the grace of God.
“The APC is a disciplined party. We are not fighters and we are not gun runners. My appeal to our supporters is to remain calm and get themselves ready for August 15th gubernatorial election. By the grace of God, we are going to win the election,” he said.
Also speaking, the former Special Adviser to ex-governor Adegboyega Oyetola on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Rasaki Adeosun described the as a ‘great development to party’s victory come August 15th, 2026.
He commended the defectors for citing the need for a change in government and expressing their confidence in the APC governorship candidate as reasons for joining the party.
He said, “I am happy, and it is gratifying to see members of the opposition and other political parties collapsing into the APC. There is virtually nothing left of the other parties in Ward 11 Olorunda Local Government with this development.
“As you can see, they took this decision because they believe there is a need for a change in government. They also told us they are convinced by the quality of the candidate we have presented for the governorship election.” he said.
The defection ceremony attracted leaders and members of the party across the Council and the state at large.
