Three security guards have been dragged before a Magistrate Court in Ile-Ife by the police for failing to foil a robbery attack on an estate in Modakeke community.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Onah Glory, had during their arraignment on Monday told the court that the three night guards named Ismaila Mohammed, 45; Bibilari Olalere, 35; and Adigun Rasak, 40; exhibited dereliction of duty on November 29, around 10pm at Aserifa-Ola Estate, Modakeke-Ife.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendants conspired to commit the offence.

He said that the defendants, being the security guards in charge of the area, failed to prevent thieves from breaking into the shop of a resident identified as Owoseni Oluwatoyin.

The night guards were said to have committed offences contrary to and punishable under sections 515 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and negligence slammed against them.

The defence counsel, Ben Adirieje, pleaded for the bail of the defendants in most liberal term, saying that his clients would not jump bail.

Magistrate O. B. Adediwura granted bail to the defendants in sum of N100,000 with one surety in like amount.

The magistrate said that the sureties, who must present their office identification cards, must swear to affidavits of means.

The case was adjourned till January 24, 2022 for mention.
