To complement efforts of the Osun State government to curb the the spread of the Coronavirus, Osun New Era of Lions Club International has distributed face masks to residents in State.
Speaking, Hon. Sunday Akere who was the former Commissioner for information and Strategy under the leadership of the immediate past Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola said the Non Governmental Organization embarked on distribution of face masks to support the government in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Akere maintained that the NGO sees the need to extend its humanitarian services to assist the people especially the less privileged in the society.
The distribution took the former commissioner and members of his Club. round the streets of Osogbo, State capital on Thursday.
Stating the reason why they embarked on the distribution of the face masks, Akere noted that “Osun New Era of Lions Club distributed face masks to residents to support the effort of government to curtail spread of COVID-19.
“This is a trying period of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic and the government has given precautionary measures which made the use of face masks mandatory for anyone going out.
“Despite the meagre price of face masks which ranges from N100 to N200, there are still some people who cannot afford it. What we have is not enough but we have to support the people to fight Coronavirus,” he added.
