Bandits have abducted 18 police officers along the Birnin Gwari-Funtua road in Kaduna State.

The Chairman, Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union, Barrister Salisu Haruna confirmed the attack in a statement, saying the policemen were on transit from Minna in Niger State to Kano State when they were attacked.

Reports from the Birnin Gwari Emirate said, “the whereabouts of 18 Police Officers attacked along Birnin Gwari Funtua road on Friday 15 January 2021 is unascertained.”

It explained that the 18 police officers, who were on surveillance along Birnin Gwari Funtua road, were attacked on Friday.

It said that till date, they could not ascertain the number of casualties.

An eyewitness, according to the statement, feared that some of the police officers were killed while others are still missing.

The report also indicated that two police officers had called home on phone informing that they were attacked and could not determine their location.

It further explained, “Similarly, Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) reports that on Thursday an unconfirmed number of bandits have ransacked Damari village in Dogon Dawa constituency of Birnin Gwari local government area.

”The bandits who came on several bikes were said to have carted away heavy food items and stole many motorcycles. They did not kill anyone. They spent three hours in Damari village without any confrontation by the security.”

The union appealed to the government to face the security issues in Birnin Gwari squarely until victory is ascertained.

The state command PPRO, ASP Mohammed Jalige, who promised to call and speak on the matter, did not contact this reporter until the time of filing this report.
