A fatal multiple accident in the Ijaye area of Moniya, along Ibadan-Iseyin Road in Oyo State on Thursday claimed seven lives and fifteen others injured as thirteen were taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Oyo State Command, Joshua Ajakaye, the accident which involved two vehicles was caused by fatigue and overspeeding at about 12.40 p.m.
According to the agency, the accident involved a white Nissan/Urban bus with Reg No: SEY 254 ZY and a white Mazda bus with Reg No: LGB 343 XA.
The accident happened during a rainy period when the road was slippery. Among the seven killed were five males, One female and one infant. The accident however involved 22 persons among them 8 males, 13 females and two infants.
Among the injured taken to Fadoks Hospital, Iseyin were three males, one infant and nine females. Bodies of three dead were deposited at the hospital while those of four were taken away by their relatives, the FRSC said in their official First Information report
It was also reported that money found in the pockets of the dead victims counted in the public was later taken by the Moniya Police officers to their station, while the bags recovered at the scene were also kept in the police station.
