Our love story began on a rainy day; I just recovered from heartbreak at the university in 2017. A brother I confided in phoned me and said, “A friend of mine named Sergeant saw your picture on my phone and said, “This lady is my wife,” and I responded, Don’t even think about it.” But what I didn’t know is that Mr. Sergeant is a go-getter and stubborn. I wondered if he was a police officer because of the name Sergeant. I consented to the brother giving my contact number to a stranger. However, I wasn’t too expectant at that time.
The first day we met, behold, he knew I was the one for him. But I was too blind to see anything. All I saw was an insanely cute man who was blown away by my weird dress and my beauty, of course. We started the relationship with no certainty of the future or doing life together. A huge storm came in 2019, and for months we stayed separated.
It was during these periods that I started seeing a clearer view of Allah’s plan for my life and how this man will be an integral part of it. I would see him in my dream when I dozed off shortly after Solah. These happened multiple times, and I knew Allah was showing me the future I didn’t see before, and it was then I knew he was the one.
Fortunately for me, it wasn’t too late to continue instead of starting over. We coined our joint name MU-ZAYNAH in 2020 because we trust Allah so much to build our castle to completion.
Beyond looks and personality, there is a way my Mr. Sergeant makes me feel that no man has ever made me feel. Whatever image of me you guys see is like an armour I have always put up to appear a certain way to fit into society. I’ve had my armour up since I was a teenager.
This armour I speak about is heavy when I wear it and so discomforting; it’s the way the world is, so I have to keep up to fit into different spaces, but I realised I didn’t need any armour with my Mr. Sergeant; he made me feel so safe. Time spent with him is absolutely when I can shut myself off from the outside world.
I made up my mind to spend eternity with the absolute love of my life. And here we are today as couple, after years of building together, through the storms and wilderness, and all we can say is Alhamdulillah.
