As politicians and political gladiators galvanise support ahead of next year’s governorship election in Osun State, a former lawmaker, Hon. Abidemi Gbenga Ogunkanmi has called on residents of the state to participate actively in the exercise.

In a statement personally signed by the former Deputy Chief Whip of the State House of Assembly on Friday, Ogunkanmi called on fresh and older voters to maximise the opportunity of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) beginning on Monday August 18, to become eligible to shape the future of the state.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, who reiterated the importance of increased voter participation in the forthcoming poll, stressed that it is the only power of the citizenry to elect credible leaders to pilot their affairs.

Ogunkanmi noted, “I am using this medium to call on our people to participate in the forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“In the last few years, many of us, who are citizens of our dear state have ignited calls for a better leadership to rescue the state and the nation at large, from its current leadership that lacks the right direction to move our people forward. The call to bring in credible and people oriented leadership is not just by the words of mouth, but having the legal means to do so.

“I call on our people in Ayedire local government and by extension Iwo Federal Constituency, Osun West Senatorial District and the state at large, to come out enmasse and register in the CVR beginning on August 18th. I also want to urge our people to mobilise our younger siblings who have just attained voting age to participate in the exercise.

“We have a long way to go in reclaiming our state for a brighter future, and this is the first major step to do so. We must give it everything legal it deserves. Come all out, register, collect your PVCs, and keep it till the election day. The right to vote is our inalienable right, which we must prioritise. Come out, your vote is your power to shape our future,” the ex-council boss stated.
