The Great Ipetumodu Youth Movement (GIYM) on Thursday staged a peaceful protest against the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) over the persistent epileptic power supply in Ipetumodu and its environs.

The protest, which took place at the IBEDC office in Ipetumodu and the Control Room in Moro, was led by the President of GIYM, Comrade Babalola Taiwo, popularly known as Bablo.

During the demonstration, Com. Babalola emphatically expressed the movement’s displeasure over the nonchalant attitude of IBEDC staff towards resolving the electricity challenges faced by the community.

In his address to IBEDC representatives, Com. Babalola issued a stern ultimatum, giving the electricity company a four-day deadline to restore an adequate power supply to the town.

He stressed that the people of Ipetumodu and its environs deserve a minimum of 12 hours of electricity daily, as stipulated in the community’s band of distribution agreement with IBEDC.

The GIYM leadership and members emphasized their commitment to ensuring that IBEDC fulfills its obligations, noting that the lack of consistent power supply has adversely affected businesses, education, and the overall well-being of the community.

The protest, which was peaceful and well-coordinated, saw youth members demanding better service delivery and immediate action from IBEDC. They vowed to escalate their demands if the electricity distribution company fails to meet their requests within the stipulated time frame.

The movement also urged IBEDC staff to stop distribution of bills and/or disconnection of people’s electricity wire until adequate supply of electricity to the community is restored.

The Great Ipetumodu Youth Movement remains steadfast in advocating for the rights and welfare of the community, urging IBEDC to take swift and decisive action to rectify the power supply issues.
