Hundreds of opposition party,People Democratic Party (PDP) in Ipetu-Ile, ward ll, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun East Senatorial District, on Tuesday, have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors in their numbers who were members of the PDP and members of other political parties said they are ready to work harmoniously with members of the All Progressives Congress to deliver all future elections to the party in the area.
This is even as the Commissioner, Federal Character Commission, Barrister Abdulrasak Adeoye empowers 250 widows in his Local government.
Speaking on behalf of the fellow defectors, Mr Agboola Ayobami and Mr Sunday Olaniyan, said they were convinced to join APC due to the laudable achievements recorded by the progressive government in the state.
The defectors also attributed their defection to monumental strides made
by the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in the state and the leadership style of Barr. Abdulrasak Adeoye in the Local government.
The duo commended the Commissioner for Federal Character Commission, Barrister Abdulrasak Adeoye for his relentless efforts in ensuring that residents of Ipetu-Ile, ward 2 and Obokun at large see APC as the best choice among its peers in the area.
They, however, pledged their unflinching support to re-election of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in office come 2022, saying the governor deserves a second term to continue the good works he has started.
Speaking, the Commissioner, Federal Character Commission, Barrister Abdulrasak Adeoye, who was the convener of the programme said he took the step in the interest of the party and the good people of Obokun Local government.
Adeoye implored the defectors to work in unison with others and display sincerity of purpose for the progress of the party in their respective areas and the state at large.
As part of his efforts in alleviating indigent from abject poverty Adeoye said that about 250 widows in Obokun Local Government have been slated for empowerment with cash to appreciate their support and their participation in the party.
According to him, the gesture was aimed to further engendering unity, love and enhance sense of belonging between and among the loyalists of the party.
“The love I have for the APC and the state prompted me to organise this event to showcase the achievements of our great party and to ensure that the party’s activities are progressing.
“Our achievements will be unveiled in a month to come and it will be difficult to beat by any other local government in the state.
“I want to say with utmost humility that this programme cannot be achieved without the support of the people as part of efforts to complement the good works which the incumbent administration has been doing.
“As we all know, the achievements under the administration of Governor Oyetola across sectors manifesting in every nook and cranny of the state remained the cynosure of all eyes.
Similarly, a chieftain of the party, Otunba Jumoke Ogunkeyede, commended the bold step taken by the new members to join the ruling party, expressed confidence in the fact that their transition to the party would avail them the opportunity to serve their communities far better.
Ogunkeyede attributed the development to the positive impact of the present administration in the lives of the citizenry, saying the move showed that APC is the people’s choice.
