Osun 2027: Lai Mohammed, Adeleke’s SA, Durojaye Call for Credible Poll, Charge INEC

Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, and the Special Adviser to the Osun State, Hon. Durojaye, Isaac, have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a credible, transparent, and peaceful electoral process ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Osun State.

The two eminent Nigerians made the call in Germany during the 4th International B2B Conference held on June 8, 2026, where discussions centered on governance, economic development, diaspora engagement, and democratic institutions in Nigeria.

Speaking at the conference, Mohammed, a lawyer, businessman, and politician who served as Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture from 2015 to 2023, stressed the importance of electoral integrity in sustaining public confidence in the country’s democratic system.

He urged INEC to uphold its constitutional mandate by providing a level playing field for all political parties and candidates participating in the Osun 2027 governorship election.

“We expect INEC to conduct an election that truly reflects the will of the people. Transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to electoral laws must guide every stage of the process,” Mohammed said.

In the same vein, Hon. Durojaye Isaac emphasized the need for early preparations by INEC, security agencies, and political actors to guarantee a peaceful and credible election.

According to him, stakeholders must work collectively to prevent actions capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process.

He further called on political parties to embrace issue-based campaigns and educate their supporters on peaceful participation, noting that violence and electoral malpractice remain major threats to democratic growth.

Durojaye also urged eligible voters in Osun State to remain vigilant and actively participate in the democratic process, describing the electorate as the ultimate custodians of political accountability.

The remarks by the two leaders come as political consultations and alignments continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Osun State.

Political observers believe the election will be closely watched, considering Osun’s history of highly competitive contests and its significance in the political landscape of Nigeria’s South-West region.

With less than two years to the poll, stakeholders are increasingly looking to INEC and other relevant institutions to ensure that the election is conducted in a manner that strengthens democratic governance and reflects the genuine aspirations of the people of Osun State
